Answer to Oral Question PL262
QUESTION
Yang Berhormat Awang Mohammad bin Abdullah @ Lim Swee Ann
YANG BERHORMAT AWANG MOHAMMAD BIN ABDULLAH @ LIM SWEE ANN asked the MINISTER OF EDUCATION to state what are the Ministry of Education's plans for schools that have already been closed, especially in the interior areas? Does the ministry intend to hand them over to government agencies or NGOs so that the buildings are preserved from being damaged or stolen by irresponsible parties instead of being left abandoned just like that.
ANSWER
Yang Berhormat Menteri Pendidikan
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Yang Berhormat Pehin Yang Di-Pertua and Your Honourable Members,
Peace be upon you and Allah's mercy and blessings, good morning and greetings.
First of all, kaola would like to record the highest appreciation and thanks to Yang Berhormat Yang Di-Pertua for the opportunity given to kaola to answer oral question PL262 raised by Yang Berhormat Awang Mohammad bin Abdullah @ Lim Swee Ann.
The Ministry of Education has prepared guidelines on the procedure for handing over vacant buildings that are no longer in use. Based on these guidelines, the handover procedure is as follows:
- Submitting a Vacant Building Report to the Planning and Asset Management Working Committee, Ministry of Education;
- Offering it first internally to departments or institutions within the Ministry of Education;
- Offering it to agencies outside the Ministry if there is no internal need;
- If there is still no takeover, the building will be referred to the Technical Committee on Handling Government Buildings for further advice and action.
This procedure is implemented with full care to ensure that the management of Government assets is carried out prudently.
For example, SR Kenua has already been fully handed over to the Ministry of Defence on 13 March 2025, while Sekolah Rendah Piasau-Piasau has been merged and the school building has been fully used by the Department of Islamic Studies until now.
