QUESTION

Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Daud bin Jihan

YANG BERHORMAT AWANG HAJI DAUD BIN JIHAN asks the Yang Berhormat Menteri Pembangunan to state whether there are plans to address the very dangerous traffic conditions, particularly around the Muara-Tutong Highway at the U-turn leading to Tanah Jambu Vocational School?

ANSWER

Yang Berhormat Menteri Pembangunan

Thank you Yang Berhormat Yang Di-Pertua, and thank you to Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Daud bin Jihan for the question raised regarding the traffic conditions in the Muara-Tutong Highway area, particularly at the 'U' turn leading to Tanah Jambu Vocational School.

For information, the Ministry of Development through the Public Works Department has planned and implemented several initiatives to improve the level of road safety in the area concerned.

Among them, the construction works of an overpass crossing the Muara-Tutong Highway near the Tanjung Kajar Industrial Site are currently underway and are expected to be fully completed by the end of 2026. Once completed, the existing 'U' turn will be closed and traffic flow will be redirected via the overpass for a safer and more orderly route.

While awaiting the completion of the project, several safety control measures have been implemented. These include the installation of yellow "rumble strip" lines and "SLOW" road markings to reduce vehicle speed and increase the level of awareness of road users when approaching the area.

Based on records from 2022 to 2024, only two (2) self-accident incidents were recorded at this location, which did not involve injuries and only caused minor damage to public infrastructure such as road barriers.

The Ministry will monitor this area from time to time and adjust appropriate safety measures according to requirements.

Yang Berhormat Yang Di-Pertua. That is all the answer that Kaola is able to convey in answering the question from Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Daud bin Jihan. Thank you.
