ANSWER
Yang Berhormat Menteri Pendidikan
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Yang Berhormat Pehin Yang Di-Pertua and Your Honourable Members,
Peace be upon you and Allah's mercy and blessings, a very good morning and greetings.
First of all, kaola would like to record the highest appreciation and thanks to Yang Berhormat Yang Di-Pertua for the opportunity given to kaola to answer oral question PL157 raised by Awang Amran bin Haji Maidin regarding the membership requirements of the Parent-Teacher Association and to what extent the Parent-Teacher Association can contribute to the advancement of school education.
In relation to membership appointments, the Education Act Chapter 210, Regulation 3(2) provides that membership of the Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) consists of parents or guardians of students as well as teachers at the school concerned. However, the regulations in force also allow the appointment of up to two (2) non-members into the PIBG committee, subject to the consideration and approval of the Chief Registrar as provided under Regulations 5(4) to 5(6), so long as such appointment is in line with the objectives and purposes of the establishment of the PIBG.
In terms of contribution, the PIBG plays a very important role in supporting the advancement of education at the school level. Among the main contributions of the PIBG are working together with the school in planning, organising and implementing academic, community, religious, recreational and sports programmes. In addition, the PIBG also carries out welfare programmes and is involved in providing contributions and assistance to students from less fortunate families and to the school.
