ANSWER

Yang Berhormat Menteri Sumber-Sumber Utama dan Pelancongan

Veterinary services, provided through the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood, are responsible for ensuring the food safety of products from the livestock industry as well as detecting and addressing outbreaks of animal diseases. In this matter, as a detection and prevention measure, animal diseases are monitored continuously through farm sampling and surveillance programmes. The actions and enforcement taken should a disease or outbreak occur are based on the Akta Haiwan (Penyakit dan Kuarantin) - Animal (Disease and Quarantine) Act.

In addition, the Ministry has also ensured the availability of a veterinary laboratory accredited according to ISO:17025, which has the capability and expertise in the analysis and detection of the spread of significant livestock disease outbreaks. The Ministry also ensures that veterinary services are carried out in close cooperation and alignment with relevant international bodies such as the World Organization for Animal Health for research needs, exchange of information and expertise, and subsequently the monitoring of disease status at the regional level. These efforts are implemented to ensure that the food safety of the nation's livestock farms is sustainable and free from disease.

Praise be to God, with the country's success in exporting eggs and meat-based agrifood products, this directly serves as an international recognition of the country's veterinary services as a central agency that manages the livestock industry competently, including in terms of monitoring and controlling livestock diseases. This is because before the export of eggs and other livestock products, the country's veterinary services must undergo an audit by importing countries.
