Answer for Oral Question PL254

QUESTION

Yang Berhormat Awang Abdul Aziz bin Haji Hamdan

YANG BERHORMAT AWANG ABDUL AZIZ BIN HAJI HAMDAN asks the MINISTER OF PRIMARY RESOURCES AND TOURISM to state whether the Ministry has plans to establish a Brunei Annual Event Calendar (Brunei Year Event Calendar) listing official events organised in each district throughout the year for the purpose of promoting the local tourism industry at the domestic and international levels?

ANSWER

Yang Berhormat Menteri Sumber-Sumber Utama dan Pelancongan

The Brunei Annual Event Calendar is indeed prepared by the Tourism Development Department every March. However, the Ministry hopes for close and continuous cooperation from all stakeholders and welcomes the early sharing of information regarding planned events so that they can be compiled and promoted in an integrated manner on one official platform - whether digitally or in print.

With early planning and a comprehensive list of events, the Ministry can arrange more timely, targeted and high-impact marketing strategies. This includes the implementation of event-based campaigns (Event-based Tourism), targeted digital promotion, the preparation of special tour packages aligned with event dates, as well as the coordination of joint promotions with airlines, accommodation providers, travel agencies and related service providers.

This planning not only helps attract visitors at strategic times, but also gives opportunities to all industry players including hotels, restaurants, tourism operators and local traders to coordinate their offerings such as discount promotions, increased capacity, or operational adjustments in conjunction with particular events. In this way, they can plan earlier and maximise the economic benefits from increased visitor arrivals during the event season.

This approach also enables the Ministry and industry partners to target suitable markets, plan more effective cross-border promotional campaigns, and give visitors - particularly international visitors - clear incentives to choose specific times of the year to visit Brunei.
