ANSWER

Yang Berhormat Menteri Sumber-Sumber Utama dan Pelancongan

The Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism is currently developing the Transit Tour Program initiative as part of its strategy to attract transit visitors stopping at Brunei International Airport. The main objective of this program is to encourage them to extend their stopover period, as well as to increase domestic tourism spending even within a limited time.

Through this program, visitors will be offered short city tour packages lasting between 3 to 6 hours, highlighting several of the country's iconic attractions such as Sultan Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Mosque, Kampung Ayer, Brunei River Cruise, and Tamu Kianggeh. To ensure that the design of these packages truly meets the needs of transit visitors, a Transit Survey will be conducted to identify visitors' interests, needs, and profiles - including in terms of pricing, tour duration, focus locations, and types of transportation.

The Ministry has also initiated strategic cooperation with various industry partners including transport providers such as DART, car rental companies, local telecommunications companies, airport management, nearby hotels, as well as Royal Brunei Airlines, in addition to collaborating with Yang Berhormat Menteri Pengangkutan dan Infokomunikasi through the Connectivity Working Group to support integration between the tourism and public transport sectors.

Among the elements being considered is the provision of a Transit Discovery Pack containing discount vouchers, a brief itinerary, a tourism map, and low-cost shuttle services to key destinations. This effort will not only enhance the experience of transit visitors, but also provide optimal exposure to the country's tourism products. With a phased approach and the support of various parties, the Ministry is confident that Brunei Darussalam has the potential to be recognised as a unique and high-quality transit destination, as well as being capable of cultivating visitors' interest to return again as main tourists to this country.
