QUESTION
Yang Berhormat Awang Abdul Aziz bin Haji Hamdan
YANG BERHORMAT AWANG ABDUL AZIZ BIN HAJI HAMDAN requested the MINISTER OF DEVELOPMENT to state the measures and mechanisms implemented by the Government to control the quality and safety of imported construction materials and goods used in Brunei Darussalam. Are there any standards or regular inspections to ensure that the products sold are of good quality, safe to use and do not pose risks to consumers?
ANSWER
Yang Berhormat Menteri Pembangunan
The Ministry of Development, through the Construction Basic Materials Importers Registration Committee, regulates basic construction materials, namely stone, sand, red bricks and cement. For information, importing companies intending to bring these basic materials into Brunei Darussalam are required to apply for an Import Permit through the Brunei Darussalam National Single Window (BDNSW) system. The aforementioned basic construction materials must be accompanied by the latest test reports from laboratories accredited by an accreditation body recognised by the Asia Pacific Accreditation Cooperation (APAC). Upon arrival in Brunei Darussalam, regular inspections through a quality assessment programme will be conducted by the Public Works Department to ensure that the basic construction materials comply with the standards.
