Yang Berhormat Menteri Ekonomi, Perdagangan dan Industri
Based on the 2025 Population Estimates and projections by the Department of Statistics, the population of Negara Brunei Darussalam is expected to increase from 458,600 people in 2025 to 511,100 people by 2035, with an average annual growth rate of 1.1 per cent. During this period, the population is projected to increase by 52,500 people. In terms of the workforce, the working-age population (15–64 years) is also projected to increase from 331,500 people to 359,500 people by 2035. This increase is expected to support the country's economic growth through an increase in the productive workforce and meet the development needs of various economic sectors.
To ensure that population growth within the working-age group can support the country's economic development, the Government will continue to strengthen human capital development by ensuring that the workforce possesses skills that meet current and future industry demands. In addition, the development of strategic sectors will be accelerated, while quality foreign direct investment (FDI) will continue to be strengthened to create high-skilled and value-added employment opportunities. These efforts are expected to increase the labour force participation rate, expand meaningful employment opportunities, and strengthen the country's productivity and economic capacity towards achieving the GDP target of BND30.9 billion by 2035, as well as achieving an average GDP growth target of 4 per cent by 2035.
