Yang Berhormat Awang Abdul Aziz bin Haji Hamdan​

Yang Berhormat Awang Abdul Aziz bin Haji Hamdan asked the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry to state the impact of local entrepreneurship bazaars on the country’s economic growth and the development of local entrepreneurs. Has the Ministry conducted a study on the increase in income, employment opportunities and business sustainability of participants, and what is the action plan to ensure that this programme can provide sustainable economic benefits to the country?

As one of BEDB’s key platforms for expanding market access for local MSMEs, the Brunei MSME Festival is organised to assist enterprises in marketing and introducing their products and services, generating sales revenue, building business networks and increasing awareness of local entrepreneurship.

Since its introduction in 2019, six editions of the Brunei MSME Festival have recorded a total of 1,005 participants, attracted 143,890 visitors and generated total sales revenue amounting to BND1,771,578.76. The festival also involved 40 local and international buyers through the Hosted Buyer Programme, in addition to business-matching sessions to create opportunities for commercial collaboration and access to wider markets.

This achievement demonstrates that entrepreneurship bazaars and expos provide direct benefits through sales revenue, market exposure and business networking opportunities. However, BEDB does not yet have a specific and comprehensive study that tracks all participants over the long term in terms of increased income, the creation of employment opportunities and business sustainability.

BEDB will continue to strengthen market access and the readiness of MSMEs to expand through the Brunei MSME Festival, business matching, the Hosted Buyer Programme and other sales channels, supported by capacity-building, financing, certification and export-facilitation programmes.
