QUESTION

Yang Berhormat Dayang Hajah Rosmawatty binti Haji Abdul Mumin

Yang Berhormat Dayang Hajah Rosmawatty binti Haji Abdul Mumin asked the Yang Berhormat Menteri Hal Ehwal Dalam Negeri to state, in relation to the follow-up action to the Ministerial Statement concerning the academic session for inmates that commenced in October 2025, to what extent it has been realised and what the Ministry’s long-term strategy is for developing a continuous education pathway to technical, vocational and higher education levels for the reintegration of inmates into society.

ANSWER

Yang Berhormat Menteri Hal Ehwal Dalam Negeri

The question relating to the long-term strategy for a continuous education pathway for inmates had previously been shared through the Ministerial Statement at the First Meeting of the Twenty-Second Session of the Majlis Mesyuarat Negara.

Nevertheless, an update is shared regarding the academic session for inmates, whereby for the 2025 Cohort, a total of 32 inmates sat for examinations at 'O' Level. Meanwhile, the initiatives that have been and are being implemented by the Ministry of Home Affairs through the Prisons Department include:

  • Community and Family Support Programme for Prison Inmates;
  • Various vocational training programmes in collaboration with several government agencies, the private sector and non-governmental organisations, including Carpentry Training, Weaving Training; and the Bakery Programme; as well as
  • The Al-Quran Memorisation Programme for strengthening personal identity, whereby, to date, Alhamdulillah, one of the participants has taken part in the National-Level Musabaqah Menghafaz Al-Quran.
