Yang Berhormat Pengiran Haji Isa bin Pengiran Haji Aliuddin​

Yang Berhormat Pengiran Haji Isa bin Pengiran Haji Aliuddin requested Yang Berhormat Menteri Hal Ehwal Dalam Negeri to provide an explanation regarding talent performances such as children’s talent shows and so forth, and whether these could be permitted at certain times, subject to the conditions and approval of the Ministry of Home Affairs for public entertainment activities, in order to enliven community events such as bazaars and consumer fairs, as well as support local businesses.

Yang Berhormat Menteri Hal Ehwal Dalam Negeri​

Any organisation of performances, including children’s talent shows, must comply with the Public Entertainment Act (Chapter 181) and obtain prior approval from the Public Entertainment Unit, Ministry of Home Affairs. The organisation of such performances is also subject to the stipulated conditions, including the requirement to possess a valid Fire Certificate, compliance with the permitted performance hours, and the prohibition against organising public entertainment.

In addition, each performance will be examined and screened by the Members of the Film and Public Entertainment Censorship Panel appointed by the Ministry of Home Affairs. This examination covers the content of the performance, the selection of songs and lyrics, the participants’ attire and appearance, to ensure that the performance does not jeopardise safety, touch upon religious and socio-cultural sensitivities, or conflict with the religious values, customs, culture and standards of decency of Negara Brunei Darussalam.

In principle, the Ministry has no objection to the organisation of talent performances, including children’s talent shows, provided that all legal requirements and approval conditions are complied with. This approach aims to ensure that public entertainment activities are conducted in a controlled, safe and prudent manner, while also providing a suitable platform for discovering and developing local talent.
