YANG BERHORMAT PEHIN ORANG KAYA INDERA PAHLAWAN DATO SERI SETIA AWANG HAJI SUYOI BIN HAJI OSMAN requested the MINISTER OF DEVELOPMENT to state the plans for the comprehensive and phased resurfacing and repair of roads, including preventive efforts that are not temporary in nature.

Road repair and resurfacing works are carried out in phases covering all major roads, in accordance with priorities and approved allocations. To date, 18 projects involving the repair and resurfacing of damaged roads have been carried out according to schedule. Of the 18 projects planned, 11 term contracts have been completed, with a total of 16.8 km of major roads having been repaired and resurfaced, namely:
i. Tungku Highway and Jalan Masjid Omar 'Ali Saifuddien (3.5 km)
ii. National Road (0.670 km)
iii. Mentiri Main Road (0.4 km)
iv. Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Highway (Airport Bound) (0.583 km)
v. Gadong Road (0.820 km)
vi. Lumut-Belait Highway (1.4 km)
vii. Jerudong Road (0.405 km)
viii. Ad-Hoc Works for Protocol Roads (2.77 km)
ix. Berakas Main Road (1.252 km)
x. Jalan Jame' Asr (0.17 km)
xi. Tutong Road (1.1 km)
To date, 11 contracts have been completed, involving a total of 16.8 km of major roads, while 3 contracts are under implementation, 2 contracts are undergoing tender evaluation, and 2 contracts have been cancelled and re-tendered, which will target additional repairs along 26.3 km of major roads.
New technologies are also being used in repair and resurfacing works to ensure road durability and extend the service life of the roads:
i. The use of Asphalt Fiber Reinforcement or fibres in asphalt mixtures to increase the durability of the asphalt layer against cracking and deformation.
ii. Second, the installation of Fiberglass Reinforcement Grid aims to increase the strength of the road base structure so that it is more resistant to traffic loads, thereby preventing uneven roads, cracks and so forth.
iii. Polymer used in the roadbase mixture (or aggregate) is capable of producing a layer with increased resistance to water and traffic loads, which is expected to reduce damage such as potholes, cracks and so forth.
