ANSWER
Yang Berhormat Menteri Sumber-Sumber Utama dan Pelancongan
The Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism continuously ensures that allocated agricultural land is utilised productively and continuously to support increased local production and the country’s food security.
In this regard, the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood conducts regular monitoring of agricultural sites allocated to operators to ensure that the projects being implemented proceed according to plan and achieve the appropriate progress in line with the stipulated KPIs. If a site is found to be unused or not showing satisfactory progress, the Department will take several measures in stages.
At the initial stage, the operator will be given advice and guidance to assist them in improving the progress of the project. If the situation remains unchanged, the Department will issue a Reminder Letter to the operator or company instructing them to submit an implementation plan and enhance farm development within the stipulated period. This Reminder Letter will be issued up to three times if satisfactory progress is not achieved. If, after that period, the operator still fails to take appropriate action, the Department may take steps to withdraw the permission to occupy the site.
This measure is important to ensure that allocated agricultural land does not remain idle and can be re-offered to other operators with the potential and capability to cultivate the land productively. This approach enables the Ministry to ensure that the use of the country’s agricultural land is continually optimised, while encouraging operators who are genuinely committed and capable of contributing to increased production in the agricultural sector.
