For information, a NATIONAL DATA COORDINATION STEERING COMMITTEE (JPKDK) has been established to coordinate the collection, sharing and use of data at the national level, ensuring that the data produced is accurate, consistent and of high quality in support of evidence-based policymaking and the monitoring of government programmes.

The committee’s main responsibilities include:

• Enhancing cooperation among government agencies in data management.
• Identifying data gaps and national statistical requirements.
• Supporting the production of indicators for policy monitoring and reporting.
• Establishing working groups for critical sectors such as the economic, social and digital sectors.

The role of the committee is not only technical but also strategic — leading the country’s data transformation towards an integrated statistical system aligned with Wawasan Brunei 2035.

In the context of the labour market, the efforts of JPKDK can be strengthened through the implementation of the Labour Market Information System (LMIS) under the Prime Minister’s Office through the Manpower Planning Office.

LMIS is a pilot project being developed under the Data Analytics as a Service initiative managed by the E-Government National Centre (EGNC) to integrate and coordinate workforce-related data from various relevant agencies. This system will provide current and comprehensive information on the country’s labour market, including data on employment, jobseekers, employment opportunities, workforce skills and industry requirements.

The information provided through this system will assist stakeholders in developing and improving education curricula and training programmes so that they are more aligned with labour market needs and current industry demand. With more comprehensive data on employment trends and skills requirements, educational and training institutions will be able to plan human capital development programmes that are more relevant and responsive to economic developments.

Overall, the centralisation of data and the development of this labour market information system will support the country’s workforce planning in a more strategic manner, while ensuring better coordination among the education system, skills training and actual industry requirements.

The LMIS project is being implemented in stages and is expected to commence operations or go live in 2027. To date, 18 briefing sessions have been conducted to identify the level of data readiness among stakeholders prior to the integration of data into the LMIS system.

Meanwhile, to support and monitor the country’s achievements in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), data from ministries, agencies and the private sector are also collected and integrated through the SDG Tracker, an integrated platform developed through cooperation between the Wawasan Brunei Office and UNESCAP.

This data is aligned with Wawasan Brunei 2035 and the country’s development plans through the KPI Executive Management System (KEMaS), in order to strengthen coordination among ministries, agencies and the private sector, as well as to strengthen the planning and policymaking processes.
