YANG BERHORMAT AWANG AMRAN BIN HAJI MAIDIN asked Yang Berhormat Menteri Pembangunan to state whether there are long-term policies and directions for Kampong Ayer as an effort to preserve its traditional identity, modernise it, and ensure the safety, comfort and quality of life of its residents without compromising social values.

The policies and strategies for the development of Kampong Ayer are contained in the Bandar Seri Begawan Master Plan under the control of the Ministry of Home Affairs, which also details the long-term policies and directions for Kampong Ayer as well as strategies for preserving the area.

The Ministry of Development, as the provider of infrastructure and the maintainer of basic public amenities, has implemented development initiatives for Kampong Ayer. Among them are:

  • The Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation implements Projek Pengutipan Sampah, involving 8 villages in Kampong Ayer, with monthly expenditure of $25,000, as well as Projek Pembersihan Sungai Brunei using Skimmer Boats, with monthly expenditure of $100,000.

  • The repair/construction of Kampong Ayer Walkway, implemented through collaboration between the Brunei/Muara District Department and the Public Works Department, whereby the Public Works Department provides technical advice, cost estimates and bridge repair works.

  • Projek Penyelenggaraan dan Pembaikan Paip Air di Kampong Ayer amounting to $68,000 for the 2025/2026 financial year.
