Thank you to Yang Berhormat Dayang Hajah Safiah binti Sheikh Haji Abd Salam for the inquiry regarding the ministry's plans to ensure comprehensive protection of sites under the Antiquities and Treasure Trove Act Chapter 31, which can be utilized as tourist attractions and research centers.

Negara Brunei Darussalam is committed to the effort of preserving and elevating cultural and historical heritage to an international level. Nomination to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites requires compliance with strict criteria under the 1973 UNESCO Convention. Of the four nominated sites, only Tasek Merimbun has so far met the convention's requirements, but there are still several preparations needed before it can be included in the UNESCO tentative list.
-
Apart from UNESCO, Negara Brunei Darussalam also takes a broader approach to safeguarding world heritage. Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque has been nominated as an ICESCO Islamic World Heritage Site and is currently under consideration. At the regional level, there are several cultural heritages under discussion for listing under the ASEAN Cultural Heritage List. This reflects continuous efforts to ensure that Brunei’s cultural treasures receive appropriate recognition.
-
Alhamdulillah, a milestone has been achieved with the nomination of the Kebaya as an Intangible World Heritage 2024 alongside Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand. Insya-Allah, in the coming years, more of our nation's cultural heritage will be introduced to the international list, in line with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports’ efforts to strengthen Brunei Darussalam’s cultural identity and heritage on the world stage.

That is all that can be commented on. Thank you.
