YANG BERHORMAT PEHIN ORANG KAYA INDERA PAHLAWAN DATO SERI SETIA HAJI AWANG SUYOI BIN HAJI OSMAN

QUESTION:

YANG BERHORMAT PEHIN ORANG KAYA INDERA PAHLAWAN DATO SERI SETIA HAJI AWANG SUYOI BIN HAJI OSMAN requests the MINISTER OF HOME AFFAIRS to state the Ministry's steps in taking 'affirmative action' to repair, demolish, or newly develop government buildings and government flats that are vacant, abandoned, and unsafe for occupancy. These buildings are mostly located on 'prime' sites and, if developed, will have high value.

YANG BERHORMAT MENTERI HAL EHWAL DALAM NEGERI

ANSWER:

  1. Any vacant and abandoned government buildings are addressed and handled under the Committee for Addressing Vacant Buildings at the Ministry of Finance and Economy to ensure these buildings are well-managed and fully utilized over time. The committee is co-chaired by Yang Berhormat Menteri di Jabatan Perdana Menteri dan Menteri Kewangan dan Ekonomi II and Yang Berhormat Menteri Pembangunan.

  2. The Ministry of Home Affairs, through its departments, submitted a list of vacant buildings to the said committee on November 10, 2021. At the same time, the Ministry has also identified several buildings for which the original development objectives have been changed. For example, the PWD 169 flat is being converted into a temporary placement center for the use of the Department of Community Development and the Department of Zakat, Waqaf, and Baitulmal Affairs (JUZWAB) to house victims of natural disasters. Meanwhile, the Kuala Belait Park Multipurpose Hall is currently being used as an office for the Kuala Belait enforcement branch.
